Last night the Xiaoshuijing Farmers’ Chorus sang in Symphony Hall, accompanied either by accordions or piano. They were 50 farmers of the Miao ethnic minority based at their church in Yunnan province who have been passed through the generations the tradition of singing from Christian Missionaries in the 1930’s. In traditional dress they lustily sang a number of local folk songs but also extracts from the Messiah rounding off the evening singing Danny Boy in Mandarin. A great evening enjoyed by all.
