Music and Dance
A mixed martial arts and contemporary dance performance by Rosie Kay Dance Company, tells the story of two tribes – the TRADS who preserve ancient traditions and the MODS who push the form into the future. With funding from the Arts Council England, and the support of the Birmingham Hippodrome and DanceXChange, the Chinese Community Centre Birmingham (CCCB) partnered with Rosie Kay Dance Company to include amateur dancers and the older people from the Chinese community. The extended show was performed during Chinese New Year 2017 in the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham city centre and on the main stage in Birmingham Chinatown (Chinese Quarter, Birmingham), West Midlands.
A music theatre production for children and families, combining narration, video, dance and music with 6 musicians (3 Chinese and 3 Western). The performance would be in 2 halves – each written and composed by a British and a Chinese writer and composer, offering 2 differing cultural perspectives on the same story. The project is led by David Curtis.
